Over the years many people, from all over the globe, have turned up for dinner on a Tuesday Night. In Wellington we are lucky enough to have people from lots of different countries, cultures and backgrounds in the city. Unfortunately (for us) they often continue on their journeys; and, as kiwis there are many of us that have flown to exotic locations all round the world in search of fame, fortune and a friendlier climate.
So, what I would like to do is have a dinner party at your house, wherever in the world you may be. The still evolving plan is:
- You invite your friends over for dinner
- You take me to your markets, food store, farm, whatever you think is interesting
- We cook up a storm
- We have a pot-luck dinner at your place
- We video the whole adventure as it unfolds
I always enjoy cooking in different countries and so far I’ve had some memorable dinner parties in Hong Kong, Thailand, Bali, North, South and West Island (Australia). I would like to do more – there are so many interesting places to see, people to meet, and so many interesting things to eat.
Currently the list of countries with open kitchens includes Cyprus, USA, Canada, wherever Jan is at the time, Germany, England, France, Australia (even though we mock them), Singapore, ok everywhere really.
As much as people like hearing me tell stories I would prefer to take a camera crew with me to document these amazing journeys. There are so many opportunities to create a wonderful show, with interesting people, amazing foods, adventurous recipes and hilarious experiences.
How can you help?
Well, despite a rich life and delusions of grandeur I’m not loaded (yet) – so I need help with the things listed below, and anything else we need to make this happen. Who do you know that can help make this idea a reality?
What can you contribute?
Airfares, cash, food, wine, gin, accommodation, dishwashing skills, spending money, film making skills (camera, sound, editing, directing, voice coach for me, everything really), luggage, travel agents, restaurant bills, clothing, biographers, a toothbrush, transport, global roaming phone charges, editorialising my writing, ingredients, tours of interesting foodie things, book deal, t-shirts… Seriously I would really appreciate any assistance from businesses, large or small, who would like to contribute to this tour and many, many more.
How do you have a dinner at your place?
Add a comment in the form below and I will get in touch with you to see how we can make it happen.
When is this happening?
Ummm… I don’t know yet. It will depend on where you are and how long it takes to get there. At this stage I’m curious to know who would be interested – once we know then we can figure out how to make it happen.
Do you need a special kitchen?
Nope. It’s all about using what we have – it’s all part of the fun.
How many people do you need to invite?
It doesn’t matter – like any Tuesday night - we have some amazing dinners where there are only a few of us round the small table; and then we have the big dinners where all flat surfaces are used. Each dinner is special in it’s own way.
Can you come to?
Sure!
Alas, its time to go again! Its been a pleasure seeing you & Tuesday Night Dinners again Mike!
When you get the roadshow on its way, let me know, it’ll be a fun to host in Colombia.

Hi Mike,
if you can get your ass to Cyprus I can provide accommodation, kitchen, video camera and editing, friends, homegrown: wine, olive oil, olives, tomatoes, cherries, figs, grapes, halloumi cheese, herbs…

Hi Mike,
Next time in Sydney (we will figure out how to get you here)… my place great view, great furniture, great food, great friends!
Cheers,
Alan
Hi Mike,
After so many Tuesdays at your place, it’s only fair that you spend at least one Tuesday at my place in Israel. We don’t have a guest room yet, but the couch is big and comfy. We have lots of cameras and many people to use them, the market is just 5 minutes bike ride to get all the fresh food we need, kanafeh and baklava for desert and even a baby or 2…
-Ariel
Mike,
I can have you stay with us; so I’d bet Tomo is keen and has an extra room. The guest list would include some serious food and wine people, so this would be a great night.
I’ll see how everyone could help and email you…

Okay, we’ll scheme on making this happen.

Hi Mike,
I hope you can realize your idea and hopefully you will then be also coming to Germany/Berlin! I would love to help out with dinner location, accomodation, food, wine, film crew…
Cheers from Berlin!
